Reviews
I really want to dislike Ricky Gervais but actually he's pretty good at what he does. There's a 'post alternative' aspect of British comedy that Brent (and Gervais more generally) bandwagons. The alternative comedy scene of the 80s was an alternative to the racist, homophobic, mysoginist "jokes" that preceded it. The right on, politically correct alternative comedy of the 80s and 90s has been partly circumvented by the racist-but-its-ok-because-he's-wrong viewpoint, highlighted in the utterly crass Little Britain (nothing to do with Gervaise BTW). This is ideal for fans of the office and the music could actually be quite good if it wasn't turned into something that makes you squirm (that's what makes it funny) by Brents lyrics. I think this film, although nowhere near as good as The Office, benefits you if you've have had the office experience to appreciate Brent. Alternativly it could save you watching two series of the office. Both hint at a deeper meaning to life (6/10)
