While The Unforgivable may not be groundbreaking, it proves to be a good film propelled by fantastic performances. The overarching message of the film works, even with all the filler subplots. If a few characters were trimmed from the narrative, particularly the cop's sons, this film would have had a much tighter and more effective story. Despite that, I still had a great time with it. I think the twists worked and the flashback scenes were woven into the narrative really well. I wasn't a huge fan of the final act, but it did not hurt my overall enjoyment of the film. What really helped aid the movie were the incredible performances from an all-star cast. Sandra Bullock delivers a heartbreaking, emotional performance that had me tearing up on more than one occasion. Her chemistry with Jon Bernthal is fantastic, and that relationship was a real highlight of the film for me. Vincent D'Onofrio was excellent, although his goatee was incredibly thick! Viola Davis was criminally underused, but her scenes were incredibly effective. My favorite scene from the whole movie had her in it. The "antagonists" of the movie were bad. The acting was average at best; I really think this movie could have worked without them being included. Overall, The Unforgivable is a solid entry into Netflix's original film catalog and one that I would highly recommend. Score: 63% Verdict: Decent
